Hygiene and prevention
Oral hygiene and prophylaxis are the true foundation of oral health. Properly performed can maintain the health of teeth and gums over time.
Some studies have shown that a patient with a well maintained mouth may only lose a tooth every 100 years.
From the age of six, it is important to have a professional dental check-up and cleaning.
The frequency depends on the risk of each individual :
-
- every 3 months for higher risk patients
- every 12 months for patients who are already autonomous and effective in plaque control
With the help of a dental hygienist, tooth and gum problems are identified and patients learn the best techniques to maintain good oral hygiene at home.
For patients with periodontal disease, a thorough check-up every 3/6 months and an oral hygiene session are recommended as part of the therapy in order to prevent recurrences.
